@doliveij Uh, no MMA fighter is stupid enough to get into a boxing match with Tony. Tony, however, is stupid enough to get himself into an MMA match with a mixed martial artist. Tony will lose an MMA match. That doesn’t mean Tony isn’t a good boxer. You boxing fans are so cute. I just want to double leg you guys and roll around on the mat for a while. Boring. I have a story to tell. James is really good at boxing. One day James decides he wants stop doing the thing that he is really, really good at to try to fight in the UFC(he is stupid).In his very first fight, James gets dropped on his head and punched in the face a few times.The ref, seeing James is getting his handed to him, steps in and stops the fight. James makes a lot of money but not nearly as much as if he would have stayed with boxing instead. The end.

I expected this …
I expected this match-up but I’m still kinda surprised by it. I think if you want to make serious paper on James Toney then you get him an easier match-up (set up for him to win) as his first fight before you give him the names like Kimbo or Couture. I wanted to see fight Yvel or Barry. Those are two guys that would have stood up with him. If you get him a win, that Couture match-up is infinitely more interesting and makes you more money. Great video boss.

Even after Dana signed Toney, I still didn’t think this atrocity would come to fruition. Toney knows he is not a marketable boxer anymore, and has been begging for a payday the last couple years. Calling out everyone (boxering or mma) but he really has no interest in learning the skills it takes to be competitive. I am a boxing and mma fan, but this fight will reflect very poorly on boxing, which is completely unfair.

I suppose the reality is, this is one fight. Who knows how it’ll turn out, and perhaps that is the point, how will it turn out? Face it, many people thought the UFC and White were crazy for signing Lesnar. Toney is a boxer… I’d consider boxing a martial art. I really doubt that the UFC agreed to any huge contract with Toney, so I doubt that they had to find him a big name opponent. Why Couture… who knows…

Why are you so surprized about this fight happening? Both Couture and Toney are looking for big money fights. Couture makes 250k a fight plus a piece of the ppv buys. At 46 years of age,Couture only want’s to fight Name fighters. Not these young hungry 20 somethings. He is looking to maximize his paydays now! Couture vs Toney= big ppv numbers.

I wonder whether this’ll be sanctioned as a first fight for Toney post crossover. Hope it does though, Couture is just the guy to school him. He needs to steer clear of dirty boxing though and stick to GnP- I see some sharp uppercuts coming his way courtesy of Toney in the clinch.

wow! i hope it doesn’t happen. I’d like to see Toney in with a lower-level opponent first, and one that can show us if Toney has any skills other than boxing… But Couture? Damn… Maybe Dana has a vendetta against boxing? Definitely maybe…
